Hospital Tour
Surgery, Anaesthesia, and Radiology
Veterinarian Kate Pillsbury performing a procedure under anaesthesia. We have developed safe anaesthesia protocols and monitoring systems to insure that your pet undergoes anaesthesia safely and without difficulties. Our well trained technicians monitor every parameter while your pet undergoes a procedure. Even dogs and cats as old as 16 to 18 have safely undergone anaesthesia, and have woken up without any ill effects.

Our radiology suite allows us to take radiographic images to evaluate broken bones, changes in the chest cavity, abdominal organs, and many other applications.

We work hard every day to keep your pet as healthy as possible. Dogs and cats with heart and or kidney disease often have an elevated blood pressure. These pets need to be monitored with periodic blood pressure measurement and lab values. Ultrasonic teeth cleaning and polishing is an integral part of keeping your pet healthy. Keeping up with oral care can add two or three years to your pet's life. And of course, tender loving care by our support staff is one of the best medicines a pet can have.
We are a full service animal hospital. The veterinarian(s) perform elective surgeries Tuesdays through Fridays, and emergency surgeries as they are needed. Since we do a lot of shelter work, spays and neuters are our most common surgeries. Other surgeries such ascycstotomies ( bladder stone removal), intestinal foreign body removal, exploratory surgery, and tumor removals are also common.
Our anaesthetic protocol and equipment is so effective even at risk patients can be anaesthetised successfully. Recently we performed surgery on a 28 gram hamster and the hamster made it through surgery successfully. An intravenous catheter is placed in every pet prior to surgery. The heart rate, respiration rate, percent oxygen, and temperature, are monitored throughout every surgical procedure. Quick acting anaesthetics are used so your pet will wake up quickly and will not suffer lingering effects from anaesthesia.
Our hospital in Norfolk, Ma is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. As an AAHA accredited hospital we have met or exceeded more than eight hundred standards geared toward providing your pet with the highest quality care. Only fifteen percent of animal hosptals are certified by AAHA.
In addition to our surical services, we have an extensive ward for sick patients and a recovery room for surgical patients. The veterinary staff attends to the pets diligently, and every pet is made as comfortable as possible. Pain management and nursing care are strongly emphasized so that the comfort of our patients is insured. In conclusion, our facilities, equipment, and staff allow us to provide high quality veterinary care for your beloved furry friends.
